My grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago. She now only has one breast. Sometimes I go over to her place, and she looks so lopsided and I know she hasn't got her fakie in. My mother and my aunt are so paranoid that its genetic and they will get cancer too. A boy in my class used to tell me "it usually skips a generation, so you're next". This usually didn't upset me, although I did go through my life and eliminated all the risk factors that I had control over. What I don't have control over is my family history, and it's true - having a family history of breast cancer definitely increases your risk, and it can skip a generation.
It must be so upsetting to have cancer, both on the actual person and their families. The insecurity of not knowing whether you've gotten rid of it all, and whether it'll come back. The pain, the hospitals...
October is breast cancer month. I decided to host a pink charity picnic to raise money for women's cancers, mainly breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
More than 16, 800 Australian Women are diagnosed with gynaecological and breast cancers every year – that’s 40 women a day! One in 9 Australian women will be diagnosed in their lifetime. This money will provide help and support for women and their families dealing with cancer, whether it be emotional, physical, or financial support.
The day wasn't a huge success - it rained!! So not many people actually showed up. One of the girls started dancing in the rain, slipped over and broke her collarbone so we had an ambulance attending the party as well.
Even though the actual day wasn't a success - I am still trying to raise as much money as I can!! I have merchandise to sell, and donations are always welcome. To donate, click the link below!

Thankyou to everyone who has donated/is about to donate!! xx
