Going out to the city last night, I saw many drunk people with their heads between their knees, throwing up. I saw girls wondering around alone, waiting for a lift or to meet up with someone.
10 hours and 15 standard drinks later, I realised that I was completely incapable of looking after myself. I couldn't imagine being alone in the city, with nobody to look after me.
One friend, left the group to go and find her boyfriend. She didn't tell anybody where she was going, and we were all worried sick about her. All we wanted, was to know she had gotten home safely.
Reviewing the situation now, there are many things I would do differently. The most important thing about drinking is to stay in a group, and never go off alone. I would make them stop drinking, and not let them start so early in the day (2pm is too early for a teenager to be getting drunk!!). I would have insisted on waiting with my friend until her boyfriend arrived, and I would make sure he was ok to drive her home.
This morning, I spoke to my friend and let her know that she needed to tell us where she was going, and that she was home safe and sound, so none of us would spend the night worrying.
It really does ruin a night out on the town when at the end of the night, you are worrying about everyone else's safety. I can't stress how important it is to be there for people when they are intoxicated. Just being near them could potentially save their life.
